SHIMBA HILLS RAIN FOREST

A 1 Day Shimba Hills safari starts in the morning at dawn and ends in the early evening. This 1-day safari to Shimba Hills is a short scenic safari where you will have about five hours on a game drive including a bush walk looking for animals and birds while also enjoying the spectacular coastal forest landscapes of Shimba Hills National Reserve. This Wild Kenya Safaris day trip starts from Mombasa, Diani Beach, Tiwi Beach, Galu Beach, and also other areas on the Kenya coastal line.

1 DAY SHIMBA HILLS SAFARI ITINERARY:

We pick you up from your Hotel between 6:00 am-8:00 and drive along the Mombasa – Diani highway towards Kwale town to Shimba Hills National Reserve. Upon arrival at the park’s main gate, we begin our game drive searching for the few shy animals such as forest elephants, sable antelopes, buffalo, warthogs, impala, baboons, and other types of animals and birds. Unlike other national parks, Shimba Hills is more densely covered by forest so is more of a scenic safari than a wildlife safari, consider spotting the hidden wildlife as a plus.

At about 10.00 am we stop at a lookout point where we join a ranger for a bush walk to the Sheldrick Waterfalls, it’s quite a long and interesting hike so a good pair of walking shoes is recommended, you can also take a dip under the falls so do remember to bring a towel and a change of clothes. After a few minutes of enjoying the waterfalls, you walk back uphill to the vehicle and continue the game drive until you reach the main gate. We then exit the park and proceed for lunch and rest at Shimba Hills Green Safari Lodge or similar.

After lunch, enjoy the views and swimming pool at the lodge and later in the afternoon, we drive back to your beach hotel arriving at around 05.00 pm.

OUR ADVICE:

If you choose to depart very early in the morning try to get some good rest the night before and you must be fit to walk to Sheldrick Falls is 2.5km down and 2.5km up. Do also ask your hotel to prepare a very early morning breakfast before departing for this safari experience.
