Chale Island is a 30-minute drive from Diani, 1.5 hours from Mombasa, and only 70 kilometers from the Tanzania border. The island’s northern part is home to a luxurious resort, while the southern part is a lush indigenous forest and a Mijikenda kaya, an ancestral village site of the local people.

Join us for a unique day trip to Chale Island, a tranquil oasis just off the coast of Kenya. This picturesque island is only one-mile-long and half a mile wide, featuring stunning white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and a tidal saltwater lake surrounded by a mangrove forest. The island’s isolation creates a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for romance and relaxation.

About the Island

Chale Island is a small, 600-meter-long island located 10 kilometers south of Diani Beach and 50 kilometers south of Mombasa. The resort, “The Sands at Chale Island”, was carefully designed with sustainability in mind, making it one of the lowest-impact hotels in Kenya. The island’s name honors the memory of an old warrior named Chale, who is buried there. On special occasions, his descendants still visit to celebrate traditional rituals.
