Highlights Nairobi National Park is uniquely located just 15 minutes from the city center. Established in 1945, it is Kenya’s first national park, covering approximately 117 square kilometers (44 square miles). Despite its proximity to the city, the park hosts free-ranging wildlife and offers an authentic safari experience. The park is home to over 80 species of mammals and more than 300 bird species—exceeding the total bird species found in the entire British Isles. Visitors have the opportunity to see 4 of the Big Five (excluding elephants) against the striking backdrop of Nairobi’s skyline. Common sightings include rhino, lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, antelopes, and gazelles. The landscape features open plains, highland forest, rocky valleys, and bushland. Birdlife includes species such as the Secretary bird, crowned cranes, vultures, and woodpeckers.
